Is it possible to use AI for art and design but remain true to your creativity?

There are numerous controversial opinions and discussions about AI within the design community.

Some think it can be helpful, and others believe that it is destroying creativity.

I will be honest, as someone with a background in classical art and design, I was initially against using AI in my work.

However, my opinion on the usage of AI started to change after I tried using it to generate images for the first time.

Of course, when I first tried it, it was like magic: by simply providing a text prompt, I could generate an image and then a video. I was interested in the process of how the image changes depending on the specification and modification of the prompt. I added some new details to adjust in the process, but sometimes it reached a point where it just wouldn’t work at all.

So I rewrote the whole prompt with all the information and changes and started all over again.

After experimenting with generating images and videos, I came to the conclusion that the best way to incorporate AI into art is by using it as a tool to simplify the creation process.

It can help visualize ideas before diving into full creation, and you shouldn't rely on it entirely. Firstly, it's difficult to control the exact outcomes when using AI; you may receive unexpected results, some of which are great and some are unsuccessful.

To ensure that the final project feels personal, unique, and, most importantly, professional, it requires human designer input. Using generated images in a final project requires many adjustments and additional elements.

Here are some examples of my experiments. I have a personal interest in fashion, so I decided to create a fun cat character dressed in various outfits. I described each outfit in detail to achieve the look I had in mind. Then, I used my design skills to turn these images into posters.

AI is a powerful tool, that is going to evolve. It can help produce assets and simplify some technical tasks, assisting at certain stages of the creation process. But all aspects of artistry, the development of a design style, will remain in the hands of the artist.
